In a concerted effort to make the banks of Rao River in Patiala free from garbage, the city council and district officials have taken proactive measures. Notice boards have been prominently displayed to discourage littering, urging residents and commuters to dispose of their waste responsibly.
The Municipal Council has assigned the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness along the Rao River to his officers . Their duty hours extend from 9 am to 5 pm. Alongside them, 15 Safai Sevaks have been deployed to actively prevent people from discarding garbage on the ground. Their role also includes raising awareness among the public to use designated dumping boxes for waste disposal.
Despite persistent efforts by the department, the morning team often finds the area littered again, with heaps of garbage strewn around. The officers are engaged in continuous dialogue with the public, emphasising the importance of proper waste disposal. However, the issue persists as protected animals, in search of food, inadvertently spread garbage on the roads.
Residents from Vikas Nagar expressed their concerns. They suggest that if authorities are genuinely committed to addressing the garbage problem, arrangements should be made to relocate protected cows to a dedicated cowshed.
