Nepal: Ram Chandra Paudel elected new president

Ram Chandra Poudel on Thursday, 9 March elected as the third president of Nepal. The newly elected president of the nation is a common candidate of eight party alliance that includes Nepali Congress as well as CPN.

He received a total of 214 vote from the lawmakers of parliament and 352 from the provincial assembly members. In a tweet, Congress chief, Sher Bahadur Deuba stated that, “Hearty congratulations to my friend Ram Candra Poudelji for being elected as the President.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the Election Commission revealed that, 518 Provincial Assembly members and 313 Members of the Federal Parliament had cast their votes in the presidential election. It was the third presidential election in Nepal since the nation become the republic in 2008.
