Sharad Pawar, the head of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), will meet Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, and party member Rahul Gandhi on Friday in Delhi. Later today, the meeting will take place at Kharge’s home in Delhi. The Sharad Pawar faction and the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the NCP are currently arguing their cases before the Election Commission of India regarding alleged infringements on the party’s name and symbol.
In the midst of a conflict between the two factions, Ajit Pawar approached the Election Commission earlier in July to stake claim to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the party symbol. Later, the Election Commission acknowledged the split in a letter to both factions of the party and instructed Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar to exchange any documents they had submitted to the election body. The case before ECI is being heard for the first time today.
