Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), will speak to the people in Karad, in the Satara district of Maharashtra. According to the NCP, the party leader would pay a visit to the Preeti-Sangam memorial of Yashwantrao Chavan, the first chief minister of Maharashtra and his political mentor, at 10 a.m. today.
The party had urged Sharad Pawar’s supporters to show up to the monument in a tweet. The NCP leader will then likely address party supporters in Karad, along with former Maharashtra Chief Minister YB Chavan.
“We will go to Satara where we will pay obeisance at the tomb of Late Deputy Prime Minister Yashwantrao Chavan. Hundreds of thousands of workers are ready to go to Satara with Sharad Pawar,” Pune City NCP President Prashant Jagatap told the sources.
Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar’s nephew, joined the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in Maharashtra on Sunday and took oath as Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister. This unexpected and dramatic political move altered the state’s political landscape in advance of the Lok Sabha and assembly elections next year and has implications for national politics. Pawar’s speech in Karad is scheduled to be the first public event following this development.
