Second phase of the Dharmveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday. The road, which connects Worli to Marine Drive, will reduce the travel time between the two destinations from 40-50 minutes to just eight minutes. Notably, the road includes a 6.25 km tunnel from Haji Ali to Amarsons, which is slated to extend to Worli in July.
Specific features of the road
The road features advanced construction technology and is part of a 10.8 km stretch connecting Marine Drive to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Earlier, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) allocated ₹3,200 crore for the project in its 2022-23 budget. The coastal road project received the highest budget allocation, with significant portions also directed towards health, traffic, roads, and other infrastructure.
