In a significant development, authorities in Kashmir have taken a decisive step towards the establishment of a Madrassa Board in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to regulate and streamline education in Islamic religious schools across the region.
The Director of School Education, Kashmir, issued an order on Tuesday, announcing the formation of a four-member Draft Committee tasked with preparing a comprehensive proposal for the establishment of the Madrassa Board.

The official order stated, “Sanction is hereby accorded to the establishment of Draft Committee comprising below-mentioned officers/officials who will prepare a comprehensive draft proposal regarding the establishment of a Madrassa Board in J-K.”
The newly formed committee is set to commence its work on Wednesday, with a tight timeline to submit its findings and recommendations. The report is expected to be presented to the Director of School Education, Kashmir, on or before January 10.
The move is reflective of a broader trend seen in several states across the country, where Madrassa Boards have been established to regulate and oversee the education imparted in Islamic religious schools. The establishment of such boards is often aimed at ensuring standardization and quality in religious education.

This initiative is anticipated to bring about a more organized and regulated framework for the functioning of Madrassas in Jammu and Kashmir, contributing to the overall educational landscape of the region. The authorities are keen on fostering an environment that combines religious education with modern pedagogical standards, promoting a holistic approach to learning.
