Indian batters turn pale against Australian spinners on Indore turner

Australia is in a strong position at tea on the opening day of the third Test match at Indore. The visitors have scored 71 for the loss of Travis Head’s wicket.

Khawaja and Labuschagne are on the crease, and both the batters are looking confident against the Indian spinners. Currently, Australia is trailing by 38 runs. The post-tea session is crucial for the hosts to take some quick wickets and restore parity in the match.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. The Indian openers started confidently and easily negotiated the Australian fast bowlers.

Spinners did all the damage. The Australian spin trio bowled superbly on the turning Indore pitch. Matthew Kuhnemann, playing his second match, was the wrecker in chief and took a fifer, while Lyon and Murphy grabbed 3 and 1 wicket, respectively.

Indian batters generally play the spinners well. At Indore, however, all the batters struggled against Australia’s three spinners. India stumbled at lunch 7-84. Matt Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon ripped through the Indian batting order. In the post-lunch session, the story remained the same.

India lost 5-18, the same way Australia collapsed in the first two Tests of the series.

The visitors bowled India out for 109 in just 33.2 overs. Shubman Gill, Kohli and Srikar Bharat started well but failed to play long innings. Australia has a chance to take advantage in this Test, but a lot of play is left
