Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Haryana may face a second major setback this month. Senior party leader Ashok Tanwar can leave AAP on Makar Sankranti and join BJP. Ashok Tanwar had a meeting with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal in New Delhi on Wednesday. Earlier on January 5, AAP’s Haryana unit vice president Chitra Sarwara had joined Congress along with her father Nirmal Singh.

Haryana government wants to invite President Draupadi Murmu as chief guest in the Surajkund fair to be held from February 2 to February 19 next month. CM Manohar Lal himself reached Delhi on Wednesday to invite the President. Meanwhile, when the CM was in Delhi’s Taj Hotel, Ashok Tanwar met him there.

After this, Ashok Tanwar has called a meeting of his supporters on 12th January. According to people close to Tanwar, he will reveal his future strategy only after discussing with his supporters in this meeting. Sources say that Ashok Tanwar has not been attending Aam Aadmi Party meetings for the last few days.

Ashok Tanwar can join BJP on 15th January i.e. on the day of Makar Sankranti. After the meeting with the Chief Minister, the way was cleared for Tanwar to join BJP. In the next Lok Sabha elections, BJP can give ticket to Ashok Tanwar from Sirsa seat of Haryana.

According to sources Ashok Tanwar wanted to go to Rajya Sabha on behalf of Aam Aadmi Party. The tenure of 3 Rajya Sabha members of AAP is ending on January 27. These include NB Gupta of Delhi, Sushil Gupta and Sanjay Singh of UP. The party decided to send NB Gupta and Sanjay Singh to Rajya Sabha again. On the third seat, Delhi Women Commission Chairperson Swati Maliwal was made the candidate in place of Sushil Gupta.

According to sources, due to not being sent to Rajya Sabha, Ashok Tanwar’s patience ran out and he decided to leave AAP and join BJP. The last date for nomination for Rajya Sabha seats was January 9. The very next day after this date passed, Ashok Tanwar held a meeting with Haryana CM.

On May 25 last year, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had made Ashok Tanwar the chairman of its campaign committee for the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana. At the same time Sushil Gupta was made the president of Haryana unit of AAP. Gupta was in charge of Haryana before that.
Many of his supporters have left AAP in the last two-three days. On Tuesday itself, Jagbir Singh Jogankheda, president of the district unit of Aam Aadmi Party in Kurukshetra, resigned from AAP along with his supporters.

On Tuesday itself, Naresh Maggu, close to Tanwar, shared a poster related to Ashok Tanwar on the social networking site Facebook, in which he was described as the national president of Apna Bharat Morcha instead of an AAP leader. Tanwar had formed this front after resigning from the Congress Party in 2019.
