HARYANA GETS ADDITIONAL OXYGEN QUOTA OF 72 MT, TOTAL AMOUNTS TO 232 MT

Amid the rise in Covid cases, where a shortage of oxygen has caused many deaths, Haryana has been given relief by extending its oxygen quota after the Orissa government approved 72 MT oxygen for Haryana.

Reacting to the news, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that the state owns sufficient oxygen now, along with other medical equipment, with the approval for receiving more from other states.

The additional oxygen is scheduled to reach Haryana by April 29, 2021. It will be used by hospitals which need it the most.

Three empty oxygen containers had been airlifted to Orissa. The government has also approved five licences for the refilling of medical oxygen while many more are in the queue.

A string of social organisations in the state have also come up with a plan to set up new hospitals. The state government has said that they will be given permission for the same after the state gets the required oxygen quota for the patients.

As part of its efforts, the Haryana government has also planned to set up two Covid hospitals in Panipat and Hisar, each with 500 beds. Another 650-beds Covid facility is being established in PGI Rohtak and it has been made operational to some extent.

In the wake of the surge in cases, all required arrangements are being made to bring down the death toll and new cases. It has been decided by the government that IPS, IAS and IFS officials, who were earlier associated with the medical field before joining their present service, would be requested to provide medical facilities to Covid patients. Along with them, medical students in the final semester of MBBS programmes will be made to serve in hospitals.
