ED and Delhi Police zero in on Tablighi chief’s sons, nephew

In fresh trouble for Tablighi Jamaat chief Maulana Saad, the Enforcement Directorate and the Delhi Police are likely to question the cleric’s sons and nephew over monetary transactions of the Jamaat. According to sources, the funding received by the Tablighi Jamaat was handled by all the three sons of Maulana Saad and his nephew. After questioning the people who were previously working closely with Maulana Saad in the Markaz, the police and ED have reportedly found that Maulana Saad’s sons Mohammed Sayyed, Mohammed Illiyas and Mohammed Yusuf handled all the overseas funding and donations received by the Tabligh headquarters.

Sources said the Markaz got money in both cash and cheque. Now, the police are apparently trying to determine if tax was paid for money received by the Jamaat from abroad or not. The ED had earlier registered a case of money laundering against Maulana Saad and his outfit. The Income Tax department was also scrutinising accounts of Saad and the members of his outfit. Earlier, the ED had recorded the statements of close associates and employees of Maulana Saad. Four of Saad’s employees had earlier been grilled.
