Delhi gets relief from severe cold wave; Rain likely

The national capital, Delhi, got relief from a severe cold, though minimum temperatures remained below normal in most places on Thursday. 

According to the India Meteorological Department, on Thursday night, Delhi may see light rain. 

“Light/moderate isolated to scattered rainfall/thundershower is likely over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, north Rajasthan; and West Uttar Pradesh during 23rd to 25th and over Delhi on 23rd & 24th January, 2023,” the IMD said.

Meanwhile, Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius. Earlier on Wednesday and Tuesday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 2.6 degrees Celsius and 2.4 degrees Celsius. 

Earlier on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department issued orange and yellow alerts, which mean to “be prepared” to respond to any emergency, and the yellow alert signifies that the weather could change. 

Due to fog in the region, 13 trains are running late on the Northern Railway. 

Moreover, homeless people in the national capital also complained about not getting much help from authorities. 

However, between 18 January and 19 January, some parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana, as well as Chandigarh and Delhi, will experience a cold wave or severe cold wave conditions. 

“Cold wave conditions over northwest India likely to abate from January 19. The rainfall/thunderstorm is likely to commence on January 22 and continue till January 25, with peak activity on 23 and 24 January over the plains of Northwest India including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and North Rajasthan,” the IMD said.
