DC and SSP conduct surprise inspection of Hi-Tech checkpoints on Interstate Border

With the Lok Sabha elections looming, the Election Commission is leaving no stone unturned to ensure fairness and tranquility during the electoral process. In a bid to thwart any untoward interference from neighboring states’ anti-social elements, stringent measures have been put in place at the inter-state borders.

Notably, sophisticated checkpoints have been erected along major thoroughfares linking Rajasthan. Last night, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Senu Duggal and Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Pragya Jain undertook an unannounced visit to one such cutting-edge checkpoint.
The surprise inspection unfolded at the junction of Abohar Hanumangarh Road near Rajpura village, assessing the efficacy of security apparatuses. Superintendent of Police Karanveer Sinandgh and Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhwinder Singh accompanied the officials during the impromptu assessment.

Dr. Duggal underscored the necessity of stringent vigilance along the 48-kilometer border shared by Fazilka district and Rajasthan, citing potential threats from criminal elements crossing borders to commit offenses or trafficking illicit substances. She emphasized the continuous surveillance by 12 mobile flying squads, each equipped with live camera feeds, meticulously monitored at various administrative levels, including Chandigarh.

Furthermore, SSP Dr. Pragya Jain elaborated on the comprehensive security measures, highlighting the installation of hi-tech checkpoints along main arteries, complemented by 24-hour monitoring via CCTV surveillance on secondary routes. The bolstered security framework includes the deployment of central security forces, synchronized joint operations, and collaborative efforts with Rajasthan Police to ensure seamless coordination and preempt criminal activities across borders.

Stringent vehicle inspections at all checkpoints have resulted in substantial seizures, including over 700 weapons and the apprehension of 10 proclaimed offenders within the last three days. Additionally, 15 cases have been registered concerning the recovery of illicit substances, affirming the authorities’ unwavering commitment to uphold election integrity and public safety.
