India’s Covid-19 caseload has mounted to over 79 lakh cases, but more than 70 lakh patients have also been cured and discharged. This has led to the country’s recovery rate leaping past 90%.

However, the infection is still far away from being wiped out. 45,157 new cases have brought the total number of active cases to 656,026. The death toll has also mounted to 119,030.

India’s worst-affected state, Maharashtra, reported 3,645 new Covid-19 cases, 9,905 recoveries and 84 deaths, bringing total tallies too to 16,48,665 cases, 14,70,660 recoveries and 43,348 deaths. Active cases stand at 1,34,137 currently.

Among other major coronavirus-hit states and UTs, Delhi reported 2,832 new Covid-19 cases, 3,736 recoveries and 54 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total cases in the capital are now 3,59,488, including 3,27,390 recoveries and 6,312 deaths. Active cases currently stand at 25,786.

The Covid-19 death toll in Haryana rose to 1,737 with 10 more fatalities, while 1,153 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 1,59,457.  Of the new fatalities, three were reported from Gurugram, two each from Hisar and Fatehabad and one each from Sirsa, Panchkula and Faridabad.

The neighbouring state of Punjab reported 336 new Covid-19 cases and 8 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases now stand at 1,31,391, with 1,23,047 discharges, 4,219 active cases and 4,125 deaths.

Uttar Pradesh registered 1,814 fresh cases of Covid-19 in last 24 hours, which took the infection tally to 4,72,075, while the death toll rose to 6,902, with 21 more people succumbing to the disease in the same period. The number of active cases in the state has come down to 26,652 while the number of people who have recovered and been discharged from hospitals has gone up to 4,38,521.

Rajasthan recorded 14 more fatalities due to coronavirus, taking the death toll in the state to 1,853. The state also reported 1,805 new cases. The total number of people infected by Covid-19 now stands at 1,88,048 in Rajasthan, out of which, 16,233 are under treatment.

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 364 fresh Covid-19 cases and six fatalities in the past 24 hours, taking the number of cases to 92,225 and deaths to 1,444. Out of the fresh cases, 147 are from Jammu and 217 from the Kashmir valley. There are still 7,296 active cases in J&K, although 83,485 patients have recovered so far.

Amongst India’s southern states, Tamil Nadu recorded 2,708 new active Covid-19 cases and 32 deaths in the past 24 hours. Total cases in the state are now 7,11,713, with 29,268 active cases and the death toll standing at 10,956. However, 6,71,489 patients have been discharged.

Karnataka reported 3,130 new Covid-19 cases, 42 deaths and 8,715 discharges in the last 24 hours. Total cases in the state rose to 8,05,947, including 7,19,558 discharges and 10,947 deaths. Active cases stand at 75,423.

Andhra Pradesh added 1,901 fresh Covid-positive cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest in more than three months. The state saw 3,972 Covid-19 patients recover in the same period, while 19 succumbed to the virus. Andhra Pradesh now has 8,08,924 confirmed cases, 7,73,548 recoveries and 6,606 deaths. Active cases in the state have reduced to 28,770.
