Congress CWC to discuss elections, caste census on Oct 9

The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s top decision-making body, is set to convene on October 9 in New Delhi. Key agenda items include strategizing for the upcoming assembly elections in five states and deliberations on the caste census.

The party aims to maintain its stronghold in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, and overthrow the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, BRS in Telangana, and the Mizo National Front in Mizoram. Furthermore, the Congress continues its push for a caste census, emphasising rights based on population figures, especially for other backward classes (OBCs).

This CWC assembly follows recent controversies involving opposition leaders, notably the arrest of AAP’s Sanjay Singh. The Congress leadership is expected to decide on supporting him and others they believe are unfairly targeted by the central agencies.

Notably, this gathering comes shortly after the reformed CWC’s inaugural session in Hyderabad on September 16, which outlined strategies for the assembly polls and the 2024 general elections. Slated for Monday at the AICC headquarters, attendees will also include the Chief Ministers of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

The newly restructured CWC by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge features 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees, and 13 special invitees, with 15 women and several newcomers. This marks its first meeting in the capital.
