Justice UU Lalit can be the next Chief Justice of India (CJI). The current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, NV Ramana, on Thursday recommended his name. He suggested the name of the senior-most Supreme Court Justice UU Lalit as his successor to Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju.
The name of Justice UU Lalit has been included in the list for becoming the next CJI of the country.
Meanwhile, Justice Ramana also gave a copy of the letter sent to Kiren Rijiju to Justice Lalit. Earlier, Kiren Rijiju had written to CJI Ramana requesting him to name the successor.
However, it has been a tradition that the CJI sends the name of his successor to the Law Minister before retirement. The Chief justice of India NV Ramana will be retiring this month.
