BSF foils infiltration attempt along IB in Samba, Jammu

A senior Border Security Force (BSF) official revealed on Thursday that an intruder, neutralized along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, may have been deployed to conduct reconnaissance and assess the readiness of troops for potential infiltration activities.

BSF personnel successfully thwarted an infiltration bid on Wednesday night at Samba’s Regal post along the IB, resulting in the elimination of an intruder, as confirmed by officials. The body of the intruder was recovered from the site on Thursday.
Detailing the sequence of events, BSF Inspector General (IG) D K Boora, during his visit to a forward post, informed reporters that troops observed suspicious movement from across the border around 8:15 pm on Wednesday. The intruder, despite repeated warnings, continued to advance aggressively, prompting the troops to open fire.
IG BSF suggested that the intruder’s objective might have been to gauge the security situation along the border, exploiting a gap in the embankment near the incident site. He also speculated the possibility of additional individuals lurking nearby, awaiting an opportunity to infiltrate.

Expressing suspicion that the intruder could have been a pawn in a larger infiltration plan, the IG emphasized the importance of the troops’ swift response in neutralizing the threat, thereby preventing potential reinforcements from crossing the border undetected.
Commending the vigilance of the troops, the IG underscored their dedication to duty, stating that such actions serve to deter adversaries and bolster border security.
In response to inquiries regarding reports of terrorist groups allegedly hiding in Basantgarh hills after infiltrating from across the border, the IG deferred to the police for details, clarifying that Basantgarh falls outside BSF’s operational jurisdiction.
When questioned about possible infiltration attempts along the IB, the IG dismissed such concerns, asserting that there was no actionable intelligence indicating infiltration activities along the International Border at present.
