The Border Security Force has rescued 135 rare species of birds (parrots) from the clutches of smugglers near the India-Bangladesh International Border in West Bengal’s Nadia district.
These birds were being transported illegally by the smugglers from Bangladesh to India. The BSF claimed that its South Bengal Frontier forces foiled smugglers’ attempts by rescuing these 135 rare species of birds (parrots) from their grasp under its jurisdiction along the Indo-Bangladesh International Border area. The incident took place in the area of Border outpost Betai, under 84 Battalion of BSF.
“When patrolling in their area of responsibility, the on-duty jawans saw some suspicious activity and swiftly sealed off the area. The smugglers started fleeing during the search. As this was happening, the jawans removed two cages from the area, where 135 rare species of parrots were found “the BSF stated.
The seized birds have been handed over to the Forest Department Bathuadahari for further legal action.
The Commanding Officer of 84 Battalion expressed satisfaction over the success of the jawans and stated that this is only a reflection of the vigilance displayed by BSF jawans on duty.
