Bihar assembly adjourned till 2 pm due to clashes on Ram Navami

The legislative assembly of Bihar was adjourned within 15 minutes of the start of the session on Monday due to clashes in Bihar Sharif and Sasaram.

The house is adjourned till 2:00 pm. As soon as the proceedings began, Opposition leader (LoP) Vijay Kunar Sinha raised the issue, while other party legislators carrying posters and banners shouted slogans.

Sinha described the incidents in Bihar Sharif and Sasaram as “shameful, painful, and the result of administrative failure,” and claimed that the government’s appeasement policy prevented it from taking action against those involved in the Ram Navami procession.

Amid continuous protests by the ruling party legislators, he said that “How long will this continue? The SHOs announce claiming big section 144 CrPC, but the government denies.”

Members of the CPI-ML also entered the well amid the commotion.

Speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary, on the other hand, had asked CPI-ML MLA Mehboob Alam to speak on the issue, while BJP members marched into the well and raised slogans.

Ram Navami violence in Bihar’s Nalanda and Sasaram districts killed one person and injured at least ten others.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar announced a 5 lakh compensation package for the deceased’s family, blaming “some people indulging in ‘gadbad’ (wrongdoing)… attempting to disrupt communal harmony.”
