All-party meeting held ahead of Winter Session of Parliament

The Winter Session of Parliament will commence on December 4 with a gathering of floor leaders from various political parties in both houses. The meeting took place today at 11 a.m. in the Parliament Library building and was chaired by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. It’s noteworthy that the winter session of Parliament is scheduled to continue till December 22.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal were seen arriving for the meeting on Saturday. Among the opposition leaders, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, Pramod Tiwari, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Mahua Maji were present in the meeting.

The meeting took place a day prior to the announcement of the results of assembly elections in four states: Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana, which are scheduled for December 3.

Additionally, the results of the Mizoram polls are set to be announced on December 4. This timing adds a significant political context to the discussions and decisions that may be made during the Winter Session of Parliament.

The results of the assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram are anticipated to impact the proceedings of the Winter Session of Parliament. Various exit polls have suggested different outcomes for the political parties involved in these states.

It’s worth noting that the customary all-party meeting, typically held a day before the session begins, has been rescheduled to occur a day earlier this time. The change in schedule is attributed to the necessity of accommodating the counting of votes for the assembly polls, underlining the significance of the election outcomes in shaping the discussions and dynamics of the upcoming parliamentary session.
