Alert networks: Ambala truckers’ WhatsApp tactics against RTA fines

In Ambala, several groups were formed on WhatsApp by the drivers and owners of overloaded dump trucks to evade heavy fines issued by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA). These groups shared real-time updates about the movements of RTA vehicles among the truck drivers to warn them in advance.
The Ambala Police received a complaint from the RTA, leading to investigations across three police stations. Over 300 individuals were involved in these groups, which had peculiar names like “Gadar – A Love Story,” “A Glimpse of My Saint,” and “Mahadev Driver Group.” While some admins of these groups have faced legal action previously, three admins remain elusive. The police have filed three FIRs and detained several people in connection with this case. The seriousness of the matter led to these actions, as these groups were actively tracking the movements of RTA vehicles to help truck drivers avoid penalties.
