20 students fall ill after eating mid-day meal

At least 20 students of Khanapur Mandal Headquarter Girls High School in Nirmal district fell ill after consuming rice and dal as part of the mid-day meal on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in the school, there were a total of 160 students in the school of which 128 students ate the mid-day meal from the institution around 12.30 pm on the day.

After having the meal three students at 4:30 pm complained of headache, stomach pain, and vomiting. Later, other students also developed uneasiness.

Moreover, the students were immediately shifted to a hospital in Khanapur for treatment by teachers and staff.

After hearing the news the family members of the students were rushed to the hospital. Talking about the incident district educational officer Ravinder Reddy said soon after students complained of uneasiness they were shifted to the hospital.

”It happened from eating a meal in the afternoon. Many pupils were taken ill and developed headaches and started vomiting. After we had lunch, the symptoms started at around 3.30 pm. We had Pappu (Dal) and rice for lunch,” one of the girls said

However, the condition of the students are stable and later they were discharged.

Furthermore, an inquiry has been initiated by the department.
