In a decisive move to curb criminal activities in the region, the Udhampur Police has detained a notorious criminal, Ashraf Ali, alias Shifu, under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA). The detention orders were issued by the District Magistrate Udhampur, highlighting the severity of the criminal’s activities and the threat he posed to public safety.
Ashraf Ali, son of Jaleel Ahmed, a resident of Mani Tehsil Ramnagar, has been implicated in numerous criminal cases registered at both the Ramnagar and Udhampur Police Stations. The charges against him include involvement in bovine smuggling, theft, and bootlegging, marking him as a persistent threat to the peace and tranquility of the region.
The decision to invoke the J&K Public Safety Act, 1978, against Ashraf Ali was prompted by his continuous engagement in criminal activities, posing a significant risk to the public and the overall peaceful atmosphere in the area. The move is a strategic effort to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
Under the guidance of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, a detailed dossier outlining the criminal activities and threat posed by Ashraf Ali was prepared and submitted for necessary detention orders. Following due process, the detention orders were obtained, and a swift operation led by the Police Station Ramnagar and SDPO Ramnagar, under the supervision of Addl. SP Udhampur, resulted in the apprehension of Ashraf Ali.
The detention of Ashraf Ali under the PSA underscores the commitment of Udhampur Police to maintaining law and order in the region and sending a clear message that criminal activities that jeopardize public safety will be dealt with firmly and decisively.
