The NIA Court in Pulwama has declared Ashiq Ahmed Nengroo, son of Ghulam Ahmed Nengroo, resident of Hanjan Bala, Police Station Rajpora, as a proclaimed offender. This declaration comes following an application moved by Pulwama Police. Notably, Ashiq Nengroo, also known as Molvi, was earlier declared an Individual Terrorist by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2022.
Having managed to exfiltrate to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in 2018, Ashiq Nengroo is presently engaged in anti-national activities from that region, enticing local youths towards terrorism. He is implicated in multiple FIRs, including 42/2022 and 50/2023 of PS Rajpora, 129/2013 of PS Pulwama, 89/2018 of PS Jaggerkotli Jammu, 191/2018 of PS Kathua, 20/2019 of PS Awantipora, and 188/2020 of PS Pulwama, along with various other cases related to terrorism.
Since his exfiltration to PoK, Ashiq Nengroo has been orchestrating drone deliveries, facilitating weapon transfers, and managing hawala transactions to sustain terrorist activities in the Union Territory.
His involvement has recently emerged in several cases where he has utilized social media platforms to lure local youths into joining terrorist outfits and tasked them with transporting weapons.
Notable instances include the misguided involvement of individuals such as Ruhail Abdullah, son of Mohd Abdullah, of Nulli Shopian, associated with FIR number 116/2023 of PS Litter, and Shahbaz Ahmed Dar, son of Ghulam Hasan Dar, resident of Gulshanabad, linked to FIR No. 331/2023 of PS Pulwama.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police appeal to the youth to remain vigilant against such deceptive tactics, which often involve mysterious WhatsApp calls persuading them to engage in parcel deliveries, leading to legal consequences. They urge individuals to promptly report any suspicious calls to the police for appropriate action.
