Tragedy at Uri army camp: two soldiers killed in accidental blast

Two Army personnel lost their lives following an accidental grenade explosion during a routine equipment handover at an Army camp in the Kamalkote area of Uri sector in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.According to officials, the incident occurred while Army personnel were engaged in a standard equipment transfer procedure inside the camp. During the process, a grenade accidentally detonated, causing critical injuries to two soldiers present at the location.

The injured personnel were immediately evacuated and rushed to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar for emergency medical treatment. However, despite the efforts of doctors, both soldiers succumbed to their injuries and were declared dead on arrival.

The deceased soldiers have been identified as Sapper Chavan Vikram Balakrishna, serving with 8 Rashtriya Rifles under 12 Infantry Brigade, a resident of Airoli in Thane district of Maharashtra, and Sapper Yadav Arjun Rajindra, also attached to 8 Rashtriya Rifles under 12 Infantry Brigade, a resident of Shahapur village, Karad area of Satara district in Maharashtra.

Army authorities have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the accidental detonation. Preliminary information suggests that the blast was accidental in nature, and there is no indication of any militant involvement or hostile action.

The incident has cast a shadow of grief within the security forces, particularly as the loss occurred during a routine military procedure. Senior Army officials have expressed condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and assured all necessary support to their next of kin.
