Wolverhampton Wanderers have bolstered their defense with the addition of Hellas Verona’s Jackson Tchatchoua from Serie A. The right wing-back from Belgium has signed a five-year deal with Wolves that incorporates a 12-month option. The transfer is priced at around £10m, making him one of the star signings of the summer window.
Tchatchoua, 23, has already gained senior caps for Cameroon and joins England following a successful stint in Italy’s top division. Awarded as Serie A’s fastest player last season, reaching 36.3 km/h, he adds speed, flexibility, and international know-how to Molineux.
I feel good. I feel happy to be here and I’m excited,” Tchatchoua told after signing. “The Premier League is one of my dreams, and also the history of the club, the stadium, the fans this convinced me.”
Rising Career in Europe
Tchatchoua started his professional career at Charleroi in Belgium as a teenager. He found immediate success in the role of wing-back, providing assists and scoring goals from both sides. His first professional goal was against Genk, then again against RFC Seraing, displaying his raw pace and attacking enthusiasm.
In 2021, he announced for Cameroon, eventually making his senior international debut in a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde in June 2024. At about the same time, he signed for Hellas Verona on loan initially where he made an immediate impression with an assist against Frosinone. His displays resulted in a permanent switch, and during the previous season he played 43 times for club and nation, aiding Verona’s Serie A survival and Cameroon’s qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Replacement for Nelson Semedo
Tchatchoua’s signing arrives in the wake of Wolves looking to replace former captain Nélson Semedo, who turned down a contract offer and joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce. His versatility to play as right wing-back makes him an obvious replacement under Pereira’s system.
Wolves manager Vítor Pereira welcomed the signing but emphasized that more reinforcements were needed. “I am expecting the assistance of the club to bring new players in,” Pereira told reporters after Wolves’ recent loss to Manchester City, indicating a striker and midfielder as the next targets.
Transfer Market Challenges
Wolves are holding out for striker Jørgen Strand Larsen, who signed permanently for £23m following a lucrative loan stint at Celta Vigo. Newcastle United are interested, but Wolves do not regard him as available unless a bid way over the going rate is made.
At the same time, South Korean winger Hwang Hee-chan is set to leave, with Crystal Palace wanting to sign him on loan. Hwang netted just two league goals last term and has fallen down Pereira’s pecking order.
For Wolves, Tchatchoua is more than a defensive addition it is an investment in speed, youth, and international class. Throughout the transfer window, the club will be active in seeking attacking cover.
For Tchatchoua, the transfer realizes a childhood dream of playing in the Premier League and provides Wolves’ supporters with cause to think they have signed a player who can make an instant impression.
