Jujhar “Tiger” Singh has written history the first Indian to claim an international Power Slap championship. The 28-year-old from Punjab’s Ropar district astonished Russian heavyweight Anatolii “The Kraken” Galushka in Abu Dhabi, in a historic milestone for India in combat sports, which is becoming increasingly popular.

Jujhar Singh’s Family & Early Life

Born and brought up in the Karura village close to Chamkaur Sahib, Jujhar Singh hails from a poor farming family. His transition from rural Punjab to the global scene is a tribute to determination and resilience. Family members term him as “disciplined, spiritual, and intensely proud of his origins.”

While growing up, Jujhar was inclined towards combat sports dominating at traditional wrestling and kabaddi at school level before discovering mixed martial arts.

Jujhar Singh’s Big Win in Abu Dhabi Power Slap

At Power Slap 16, which took place in Abu Dhabi on October 24, 2025, Singh stepped into the ring with a turban, staunchly proclaiming his Sikh heritage. Up against a battle-hardened fighter renowned for his brute power, Singh survived initial blows and even had a cut close to his right eye in the second round.

But in the last round, there was a dramatic turnaround Singh gave a stupendous slap that left Galushka reeling, earning him a unanimous win from the judges. An overcome Singh celebrated the victory with an instant Bhangra to Panjabi MC’s “Mundian To Bach Ke.”

What is Power Slap?

Power Slap is a fighting sport properly licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and popularized by the UFC in 2023. The competition involves two fighters taking turns to exchange open-hand slaps for 60 seconds. The winner is decided by knockout or judges’ score based on accuracy, control, and durability.

Jujhar Singh’s Journey from Mud Wrestling to Power Slap

Prior to joining the Power Slap circuit, Singh established his credentials in mud wrestling and local strength competitions throughout Punjab. His athleticism and iron will soon gained him respect in the regional fighting world.

In 2023, having observed international slap-fighting tournaments on the web, he chose to specifically train for the sport a decision that would one day alter his life.

Jujhar Singh’s Training & Discipline

Jujhar Singh’s training for Power Slap was no easy job. He is said to have maintained a rigorous regimen beginning at sunrise with strength and stamina training, hand conditioning drills, balance training, and neck-resistance exercises to take impact.

He also trained his breathing, reflexes, and timing crucial aspects of slap fighting, where accuracy is more important than sheer aggression.

What Was Jujhar Singh’s Message to India?

Following his historic win, Singh offered the victory to Indian sportspersons everywhere, stating

“This victory is not mine. It belongs to all Indians who dream big with modest beginnings.”

He wishes his tale encourages more Indians to pursue non-mainstream sports and carry the tricolor across the world.
