Akash Choudhary, a 25-year-old Meghalaya cricketer, made headlines in November 2025 with his fastest fifty in the history of first-class cricket. Playing a Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh, the Meghalaya batter reached 50 runs in just 11 balls, making for a spectacular display of power hitting that included six sixes in a single over.

This extraordinary feat has not only put him on the global cricket map but also established him as one of the most explosive lower-order batters in Indian domestic cricket.

Who is Akash Choudhary?

Akash Choudhary, full name Akash Kumar Choudhary, is an Indian cricketer who plays domestic first class cricket for Meghalaya. He was born on 28 November 1999.

He made his Twenty20 debut in the 2018 19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Meghalaya and his first class debut in the 2019 20 Ranji Trophy.

He is a right-handed batsman and bowls right-arm medium pace. He has represented his team in a few first-class matches and as a lower-order batsman, he has shown promise as a power hitter.

Akash Choudhary Hits Six Sixes in an Over

During Meghalaya’s Ranji Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh, Akash Choudhary created history with a power-hitting show, smashing eight successive sixes, including six in one over off the bowling of Limbar Devi.

This is a magnificent feat that makes him the third man, in the history of first-class cricket, to hit six sixes in an over, following Ravi Shastri (1984) and Gary Sobers (1968).

Choudhary, thereby, is the leading scorer as compared to all past record-holders with eight consecutive sixes in first-class cricket.

Choudhary’s aggression at the lower order was seamless and allowed Meghalaya to not only accelerate their innings but also left fans in awe with the audacity and timing of his strokes.

What Records did Akash Choudhary Break?

There were not just sixes in that Choudhary innings. He reached his half-century in just 11 balls, which set a new world record for the fastest fifty in first-class cricket.

The record previously stood at 12 balls, courtesy of England’s Wayne White back in 2012. Choudhary’s innings contained eight sixes and one boundary, while he remained not out on 50 off 14 deliveries as Meghalaya declared at 628/6.

His performance also outdid long-standing records of legendary cricketers, therefore, allowing his name to appear alongside historic figures in cricket.

By breaking both the most sixes in a row and fastest first-class fifty records, Choudhary hasn’t only rewritten record books but also set the benchmark for future generations of power-hitters in domestic cricket.
