WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley has come forth with a strong recommendation for John Cena’s last match, demanding that up-and-coming star Bron Breakker gets the attention.
John Cena, a 17-time world champion, came out in January 2025 and stated that this was going to be his last year of being in WWE. The veteran since then has had quite a few of his largest foes such as Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and CM Punk. Next up for Cena is a fight against Logan Paul at WWE Clash in Paris, among the most upcoming matches of the year.
Dudley: Cena’s Last Opponent Should Help Put Over a Star
Discussing on the Busted Open Radio podcast, Bubba Ray Dudley stated that he does not prefer Cena’s last match to have established stars such as Orton, Rhodes, or Seth Rollins. Rather, he feels WWE ought to utilize the platform to push a younger star.
“Bron Breakker. I don’t want to see Seth Rollins in there with John. I don’t want to see Randy Orton in there with John. I don’t want to see Cody,” Dudley replied.
“I want to see somebody who can gain from this match… The moment will be about standing opposite John Cena in his final match in Boston. That’s the moment.”
Dudley underscored that in Cena’s final match, the “match” itself comes second the real legacy is in who he shares the ring with in that historic farewell.
Why Bron Breakker?
Bron Breakker, son of Rick Steiner and part of the legendary Steiner family, has already impressed fans with his powerhouse performances on WWE’s main roster. Dudley believes that Cena’s farewell would be the perfect platform to catapult Breakker into superstardom, giving him the kind of moment that defines careers.
Cena Reflects on Failed Heel Turn
Meanwhile, Cena recently spoke about his polarizing heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber 2025 when he blindsided Cody Rhodes. Although the spot caused a stir, Cena conceded that the follow-through afterward didn’t quite land.
“I wasn’t angry. No, I bombed,” Cena said to fans at Fan Expo Chicago 2025. “Ain’t nothing wrong with that. You can learn from failure. I went on stage and bombed. Shit happens.”
In spite of the mishap, Cena’s farewell tour remains to command gigantic attention. The biggest question now is: Will WWE provide his final match to a legend or a future legend such as Bron Breakker?
