TORCH ARRIVES AT DESTINATION STORY: Actor Jackie Chan carried the Olympic Torch through the ruins on ancient Pompeii as the relay continued its way to Rome on Monday (December 22).     The Chinese film star carried the torch through the ruins as the relay proceeded along the Amalfi coast.     After being lit last month in ancient Olympia, the Greek home of the ancient Games, and handed over to Italian Games organisers in early December, the torch set off from Rome’s historic Stadio dei Marmi on December 6.     The relay will span around 12,000 km (7,450 miles), passing through all 110 Italian provinces and more than 300 municipalities, with end-of-day celebrations planned in 60 cities along the route.     Italy, a winter sports powerhouse, last hosted the Winter Games in 2006 in Turin.     The 2026 Olympics will be co-hosted by Milan and the Dolomite resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo and run from February 6-22, with the Paralympics to follow in March.     The flame will continue its journey through the regions of Italy, arriving in Cortina d'Ampezzo on January 26, exactly 70 years after the kick-off of the 1956 Games at the same venue, before reaching Milan's San Siro stadium in time for the opening ceremony on February 6.
