The much-awaited Liga MX match between Cruz Azul and Toluca at Estadio Olímpico Universitario was cancelled because of a heavy thunderstorm in Mexico City. Fans and players had to wait anxiously as strong winds and heavy rain made it unsafe to play.

Liga MX officials announced that they will soon reveal a new start time. The storm also made it hard for fans to reach the stadium.

Storm Hits the Stadium

The match was supposed to start at 9:05 PM, but a thunderstorm struck the southern part of Mexico City. Heavy rain and strong winds forced organisers to stop all preparations. The thunder roared like the chants of the fans, as supporters waited patiently for the game to resume.

Safety Comes First

Liga MX shared on social media: “In coordination with Civil Protection, a new start time will be determined and announced,” they said.

Officials focused on fan safety. Streets near the stadium flooded, and stairs became slippery waterfalls. While players remained prepared in case the event started later, several supporters had problems getting to the venue.

Fans Brave the Weather

Fans did not give up despite the rain. They stayed at the stadium, hoping the match would happen. Umbrellas and raincoats appeared in the stands, but the storm did not stop their excitement. Organisers and Civil Protection teams closely monitored the weather to ensure everyone’s safety while preparing the field.
