India could have discovered its next big batting sensation in Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-hand opening batsman, aged 23, has already notched more than 2,200 runs in a mere 25 Tests, including seven centuries and 12 half-centuries. Since making his West Indies debut two years ago, he has increasingly been making the headlines for his capacity to bat long, innings-shaping scores.
Out of his seven centuries, five were 150-plus knocks, which only makes him the second player after Graeme Smith to get four consecutive hundreds over 150. His other two centuries in England were below 150 but also vital for the team.
Can Jaiswal Break Sehwag’s Legendary 319 Record?
Virender Sehwag is still the standard for big-hitting batsmen of Indian cricket, with two triple centuries to his credit. His 319 against South Africa in Chennai in 2008 is still the highest individual Test score by an Indian.
Following Jaiswal’s 175 in the second Test vs. West Indies, experts are of the view that he has the technique, temperament, and patience to match Sehwag’s record.
Kaif on Jaiswal Scoring 300 in Test?
Ex-India great Mohammad Kaif is sure of Jaiswal’s talent, tweeting on X:
“Yashasvi Jaiswal is a batsman with the patience to score big hundreds and set new marks. In his first 26 matches, his numbers are as good as Sachin and Virat. Scoring at high strike rate, his hundreds mostly put India on path to victory. Sehwag ka 300 wala record, Jaiswal hi todega.“

Kumble on Jaiswal’s Hunger and Focus
Leg-spinner legend Anil Kumble also had good words for Jaiswal, who said “Jaiswal is getting better and better day by day. We’ve discussed his hunger and attitude towards scoring big knocks, not only for himself but for the team as well. Even in the last game, he started well but got out early, so he’s made sure that today as well.”
“Along with his brief career, he has proved that he does not squander chances such as these. When he gets in, he makes it pay, and it is great to see.” Kumble further added.
