The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has welcomed a new leadership team on board. Former veteran domestic Mithun Manhas has been voted in as the new President, taking over from Roger Binny. The move was sealed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which also witnessed a number of major office bearers being confirmed or appointed on a fresh basis.
Story behind Mithun Manhas’s being Appointed as BCCI President?
At the BCCI AGM, Mithun Manhas was formally elected President, taking the highest office in India’s cricket administration. His elevation brings an end to Roger Binny’s tenure, while various other roles were ratified: Rajeev Shukla remains Vice President, with former head of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and ex-India spinner Raghuram Bhatt being appointed as Treasurer.
Devajit Saikia continues as Secretary, and Prabhtej Bhatia was joined as Joint Secretary. Manhas’ term as KSCA President ceases on September 30, enabling him to concentrate completely on BCCI duties.
Mithun Manhas: Cricket Career and Achievements
Mithun Manhas, hailing from Jammu & Kashmir, made a mark in Delhi domestic cricket before turning to administrative work. He featured in 157 first-class games, aggregating more than 9,700 runs, with 27 centuries and 49 half-centuries.
Man has captained Delhi and guided them to a Ranji Trophy victory in the season 2007–08, with 921 runs in the tournament. He had also played for Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors India, and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
While he never played for the senior Indian national team because of intense competition in the middle order, Manhas is currently the first Jammu & Kashmir person to be elected BCCI President. Having played and also served as an administrator, he has a distinct vantage point when it comes to domestic as well as international cricket.
Was Roger Binny Replaced as BCCI President?
Roger Binny, who was the BCCI President since 2022, relinquished office to make way for new leadership. His exit was a part of a scheduled change within the BCCI administrative framework.
Rajeev Shukla had briefly provided continuity in leadership prior to Manhas’ election to provide smooth transition.
Who are the rest of the BCCI Office Bearers?
- Vice President: Rajeev Shukla (re-elected)
- Secretary: Devajit Saikia (retains)
- Joint Secretary: Prabhtej Bhatia (newly appointed)
- Treasurer: Raghuram Bhatt (appointed)
These additions complete the BCCI leadership for the coming term, establishing a model for national cricket development and state associations.
