Aryna Sabalenka defeated Amanda Anisimova in straight sets to successfully defend her US Open title, making her the first female to do it since Serena Williams in 2014.
At Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, the Belarusian World No. 1 won her fourth Grand Slam title by securing the final 6-3, 7-6(3). The victory is all the more remarkable because it follows heartbreaks earlier in the season.
Sabalenka Breaks Serena’s Record Drought
With this win, Sabalenka joined an elite company. She became the first woman in over a decade to win back-to-back US Open titles, a record last held by Serena Williams.
Her latest triumph adds to her two Australian Open trophies, further cementing her status as the most dominant player on the women’s tour right now.

A Revenge Win for Sabalenka
This final was not just about defending a title; it was also about redemption. Sabalenka had lost to Anisimova in the Wimbledon semifinal earlier this year. On Saturday, she returned the favour, defeating the American in front of her home crowd.
Sabalenka admitted that the pressure was huge at the start, but said her resilience got her through. “So far as the BCCI’s view is concerned, we have to follow whatever the central government formalises. Recently, our policy regarding India’s participation in any multinational or international tournament clearly states that there are no restrictions imposed by the central government on playing against countries not on friendly terms with India. So, India has to play all matches in any multinational tournament,” Saikia told ANI exclusively.
Anisimova’s Second Final Defeat
For 24-year-old Amanda Anisimova, this was another tough moment. She lost her second straight Grand Slam final after falling to Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon earlier this year.
Despite her fight in the second set, she fell short in the tie-break. However, her run to the final helped her rise to World No.4 in the WTA rankings.
How the Final Unfold?
The match began with high intensity. Anisimova put Sabalenka under pressure by creating three break points in the very first game. But the World No.1 saved them all and steadied herself. Sabalenka grabbed key breaks later and took the opening set in 38 minutes.
In the second set, Anisimova fought back bravely. From 1-3 down, she levelled the score and even pushed Sabalenka to serve for the match at 5-5. The crowd roared as the set went into a tie-break. But once Sabalenka raced to a 6-1 lead, there was no stopping her. She sealed victory in an hour and 34 minutes.
What This Win Means?
Sabalenka’s win shows her dominance in women’s tennis. She bounced back from defeats in Wimbledon and the French Open earlier this year to claim her fourth Grand Slam. At just 26, she is already among the modern greats of the game.
