Last lunar eclipse which will occur on the 7th of September in the year 2025. The eclipse will take place during a full moon in the month of Bhadrpada a deeply significant period known in astrological and religious traditions.

It is expected to be a total lunar eclipse and lasting for 3 hours and 30 minutes in total. This lunar event is expected to occur between 9:57 PM and 1:26 AM IST lasting for 1 hour 22 minutes auspicious timings believed to have immense energy requiring mindfulness and discipline in actions and thoughts.

Why this Lunar Eclipse Holds Spiritually?

Lunar eclipse (Chandra Grahan) is different from the normal full moon and it indicates a period of increased cosmic power.

According to Vedic astrology, the period is said to heighten the effects of energies both positive and negative in which many somehow underwent traditional customs to secure their welfare and sought spiritual cleansing during the eclipse time.

During Sutak time just before the eclipse many actions are considered inappropriate like touching idols or offering prayers at a place of worship is said to be avoided during this period. Sacred spaces in the house would be draped with red or yellow cloth to keep their sanctity.

The devotees will try to refrain from the sacred plants like Tulsi and trees such as Peepal or Banyan. During this time, one should avoid things like physical intimacy, sharp instruments (scissors or knives) and even cutting their nails or hair. Pregnant women especially need to stay indoors and avoid sharp objects as much as possible for their safety and that of the unborn.

What are Practices with Positive Connotation?

Restrictions exist but this moon phase of the lunar eclipse is regarded as the most auspicious time for spiritual growth. Sacred chants namely the Mahamrityunjaya mantra or lunar mantras are thought to bring calmness and clarity of mind. Offer such alms as donations of milk, ghee, rice, silver or white garments and they are meant for the cleansing of negative karma and blessings from ancestors.

One will also be able to do such things as Tarpan, Japa, Havan or reading holy scriptures. Purification is said to be done for environment and soul. Taking bath after the eclipse and sprinkling Ganga water around the house is also prescribed to restore lost spiritual balance.
