The vibrant coastal city of Puducherry recently became a meeting point for literature, culture and public life as prominent voices from across the country gathered for the celebrated Pondy Lit Fest.
The festival’s proceedings received a major presence with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attending as the Chief Guest, adding a strong national dimension to an event centred on ideas, literature and cultural conversations.
But beyond the literary discussions and sessions, the festival also provided a platform for a significant administrative and cultural interaction.
On the sidelines of the event, Puducherry Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, IAS (Retd), and Auroville Foundation Secretary Dr. Jayanti S. Ravi, IAS, met with the Finance Minister.
During the interaction, the Lieutenant Governor and the Auroville Foundation Secretary expressed their appreciation to Sitharaman for her continued support towards the development of the region and efforts connected with its cultural heritage.
The meeting also carried a distinctly local touch.
Dr. Jayanti S. Ravi presented the Finance Minister with a curated collection of handmade Auroville handicrafts, bringing the artistic and sustainable character of Auroville into an otherwise high-level administrative engagement.
The exchange highlighted two different but closely connected aspects of Puducherry’s identity—its evolving administrative landscape and its rich cultural and artistic traditions.
With literature bringing together writers, thinkers and public figures, and Auroville representing a distinctive experiment in sustainable living and creative expression, the interaction during the festival offered another glimpse into the wider cultural character of Puducherry.
The Pondy Lit Fest, meanwhile, continued to serve as a platform where conversations around literature and ideas extended beyond the pages of books, bringing together public life, culture and the region’s distinctive heritage.
