In a shocking breach of security, former Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Swami Prasad Maurya was allegedly slapped by a man posing as a supporter during a brief stopover at Saras Crossing in Fatehpur on Wednesday. The attacker, believed to be a Karni Sena worker, approached Maurya holding a garland, only to suddenly strike him from behind in full public view.

The incident occurred during a welcome ceremony organised by local Lok Morcha supporters for Maurya, who now leads the party after quitting the Samajwadi Party. As per police reports, the attacker was accompanied by another individual. Both held garlands, creating the impression that they were there to greet the leader, before turning violent.

Security Breach Sparks Political Firestorm

Circle Officer (Sadar) Amit Singh confirmed the arrest of two individuals linked to the assault. “In the crowd of the supporters, there were two people who held garlands in their hands and misbehaved with him,” Singh told PTI, adding that both were detained and are being interrogated.

A video clip of the shocking moment has gone viral on social media, showing the slap and the chaotic aftermath as supporters pounced on the alleged attacker before handing him over to police.

Reacting strongly, Swami Prasad Maurya blamed the Karni Sena for the attack and accused the Uttar Pradesh government of providing political shelter to such elements. “The goons of this organisation are wreaking havoc on law and order in the state under the patronage of the ruling regime,” Maurya said, pointing fingers directly at the Chief Minister.

He went further, making a scathing statement against the community dynamics he believes are influencing government inaction. “A few insects from Karni Sena repeatedly trample over the law, but since they belong to the same community as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government remains silent against such mafia elements,” he told reporters.

Maurya’s Political Message Ahead of 2027 Polls

The former minister termed the Karni Sena a “lawless outfit” and warned of their growing influence and use of intimidation tactics. “If goons can carry out such attacks in the presence of police, one can only imagine what they are capable of when police are absent,” he remarked.

Despite the physical assault, Maurya used the incident to reiterate his political mission. He hinted at a strong opposition posture when he announced that his party, Lok Morcha, would run in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections under the slogan “BJP Hatao, UP Bachao” (Remove BJP, Save UP).
