Santa Tracker: Christmas Eve brings families on all continents together for a unique experience of imagination and technology, which has become an increasing part of the holiday season and its cultural heritage.

Tracking Santa Claus, who begins his globetrotting journey on Christmas Eve, has become an increasing part of the holiday adventure, having started as an imagination exercise that was technology based several decades ago. Today, two sites compete in the space of holiday and entertainment and both of them carry the essence of Christmas in different packages. These two sites are those of NORAD and Google.

How to Track Santa Claus Live Using Google & NORAD

Whether to go to Google or NORAD would simply depend on what the family is looking for. However, the NORAD Tracker does have history and nostalgia to it. Norad’s appeal is in the thinking that real military missiles are watching over Santa.

Google’s tracker on the other hand, is quick, colorfull and full of activities. Children who love playing games and animations will certainly enjoy Google’s tracker. While NORAD centers on telling stories and heritage, Google centers on interaction and digital creativity. None is better than the other and both offer different moods of the same holiday experience.

NORAD Santa Tracker Turns 70:

The NORAD Santa Tracker turns 70 this year, celebrating a Christmas Eve tradition that began in 1955 after a mistaken phone number connected children to a U.S. air defense center.

How The Tradition Began

The tradition began in 1955 when a newspaper ad accidentally listed the phone number of a U.S. air defense center instead of Santa’s. Children started calling and Air Force officer Harry Shoup chose to play along and giving them updates on Santa’s location. That simple act of kindness grew into NORAD’s annual Santa tracking tradition.

Where is Santa Right Now?

Santa is currently on his Christmas Eve journey, traveling from one country to another as he delivers gifts around the world. His exact location changes minute by minute and can be followed live using Santa trackers from NORAD or Google.
