Jammu, October 21: In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking and narco-terrorism, Jammu Police has recovered 804 grams of heroin and 1.114 kilograms of opium from the Talhar area of Sector Arnia in RS Pura under *Operation Sanjeevani*. Preliminary investigation has indicated a possible cross-border narcotics smuggling network involving the use of drones to transport drugs into Indian territory.

The case came to light on October 20, when Police Station RS Pura received information that a 26-year-old man, identified as Sunny Kumar, son of Tarsem Lal and a resident of Kotli Mirdian in Suchetgarh tehsil of Jammu district, was allegedly consuming narcotics near a ditch in his village.

Acting on the information, police registered FIR No. 186/2026 under Sections 8, 18, 21, 22 and 27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and initiated an investigation.

During questioning and subsequent investigation, police uncovered leads pointing towards the man’s alleged involvement in a narcotics smuggling module linked to a drone-dropping incident. Acting on the information developed during the probe, a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of RS Pura pursued the leads, resulting in the recovery of 804 grams of heroin and 1.114 kilograms of opium from the Talhar area of Sector Arnia.

The recovery is being viewed as a significant development in the ongoing efforts to identify and dismantle drug trafficking networks operating along the border areas of Jammu district.

Preliminary findings have pointed towards a possible cross-border connection, with drones suspected to have been used to smuggle narcotics into Indian territory. Police are now working to establish the source of the recovered consignment, identify its intended recipients and trace the wider network allegedly involved in the operation.

Police is also examining the backward and forward linkages of the suspected smuggling module to determine whether more individuals are involved and to establish the complete chain of narcotics trafficking.
