Srinagar: Srinagar Police have attached immovable properties worth approximately Rs 4 crore belonging to two alleged drug traffickers in separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, as part of an intensified crackdown on the narcotics trade under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan.

According to officials, the action was taken to dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting drug trafficking networks and to prevent the accused from benefiting from assets allegedly acquired through illegal narcotics activities.

In the first case, Police Station Sangam attached properties valued at around Rs 3 crore belonging to Gulam Ahmad Dar in connection with a case registered under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act. The attached assets include a residential house, commercial shops and parcels of land.

Police said investigations established that the properties had been acquired through proceeds generated from drug trafficking activities. Acting under the provisions of the NDPS Act, authorities initiated attachment proceedings to ensure that the assets could not be concealed, transferred or disposed of during the course of the investigation.

In a separate operation, Police Station Nowhatta attached a residential property worth nearly Rs 1 crore belonging to Mohd Shafi Sheikh. The property is linked to a case registered under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act.

Officials stated that enquiries conducted during the investigation revealed that the property had allegedly been acquired through income generated from the illegal narcotics trade. Following the findings, the property was attached under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.

The combined value of the assets attached in the two cases is estimated at approximately Rs 4 crore. Police described the action as a significant step in their ongoing efforts to target not only those involved in drug trafficking but also the financial gains derived from such criminal activities.

A Srinagar Police spokesperson reiterated the force’s commitment to combating the menace of drug abuse and narcotics trafficking in the region.

“We remain committed to dismantling narcotics networks by targeting both drug traffickers and the assets generated through criminal activities. Such action shall continue under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan. Together, let us build a drug-free Kashmir,” the spokesperson said.

The attachments form part of a broader strategy adopted by law enforcement agencies to weaken organised drug networks by depriving offenders of properties and assets allegedly purchased through illicit earnings. Officials believe that targeting the economic foundations of narcotics operations is crucial to disrupting the supply chain and deterring future offences.

The Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan has seen a series of enforcement measures in recent months, including arrests, seizures of narcotic substances and the attachment of properties linked to alleged drug traffickers. Authorities have maintained that a multi-pronged approach combining enforcement, awareness campaigns and community participation is essential to tackling the growing challenge posed by narcotics.

Police have urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information about drug-related activities in their localities. They stressed that public participation remains a vital component of efforts to eliminate the drug menace and protect communities, particularly young people, from substance abuse.

Further investigation in both cases is ongoing, and officials said additional legal action may follow depending on the outcome of the enquiries.
