Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Sunday to attend the United Nations’ “Summit of the Future” (SOTF). The visit marks the second leg of his three-day trip to the United States. Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the Prime Minister’s arrival and noted that Modi will participate in key bilateral meetings during his time in New York.

In a post on X, Jaiswal wrote, “PM Narendra Modi arrives in New York, the second leg of his 3-day visit to the USA. PM will address the UN Summit of the Future, interact with the community, and attend other programs.”

Members of the Indian diaspora, eagerly awaiting Modi’s arrival at the Lotte Palace Hotel, were seen holding Indian flags and chanting “Bharat Mata ki Jai” in anticipation. “We are here to welcome our PM Narendra Modi. We are very excited to meet & greet him personally,” said one member of the Indian community in New York.

Another attendee, who traveled from India, shared, “I brought a handmade portrait created by a Type 1 diabetes child to thank PM Modi for providing insulin.”

This visit follows PM Modi’s participation in the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden. The summit, attended by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, was the sixth edition of the Quad and a ‘farewell’ event for both Biden and Kishida as they prepare to leave office.
