In a rural landscape nestled in the eastern part of Bharatpur district, the Nadbai Assembly constituency stands as a testament to the intricate dance of politics and socio-economic challenges in the heart of Rajasthan, India.
The constituency’s socio-economic profile mirrors the challenges faced by rural India. With agriculture as the primary occupation, major crops such as wheat, bajra, mustard, and cotton contribute to the local economy. However, Nadbai grapples with poverty, illiteracy, and a lack of basic amenities.
Marginalised communities, including Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, form an integral part of the constituency. Development programs implemented by the government aim to address these challenges, striving to uplift the socio-economic status of the residents.
Nadbai’s predominantly rural character, coupled with a diverse economic landscape that includes small industries such as brick kilns, stone cutting and polishing units, and textile mills, paints a picture of resilience amid challenges.
In 1962, Nathi Lal, an independent candidate won the assembly elections and became an MLA of the Nadbai constituency. He won again in 1967. In 1972, the Indian National Congress chose Natha Singh to stand against Nathi Lal, and Singh won the seat. In 1977, Hari Krishan of the Janata Party won the elections. Yadunath Singh of the Janata Party emerged victorious in 1980, 1985(as a Lokdal party candidate), and 1990 (as Janata Dal candidate) assembly elections. In 1993, Vishwender Singh of Congress became the MLA. In 1998, an independent politician Yashvant Singh won the assembly elections. In 2003, Kishnendra Kaur (Deepa) won as an independent candidate, and she continued her winning strike for the next two assembly elections (2008, and 2013) as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, she lost to Joginder Singh Awana of the Bahujan Samaj Party in the 2018 assembly elections.
However, the constituency remains politically volatile, experiencing frequent shifts in party loyalties and defections. These political upheavals contribute to the ever-evolving narrative of Nadbai’s political landscape.
As Nadbai continues to grapple with its unique blend of political intricacies and socio-economic challenges, it stands as a microcosm reflecting the broader tapestry of rural Rajasthan.
