A massive demonstration expressing unwavering support for Palestine in its ongoing conflict with Israel took place at the YMCA ground in Agripada on Saturday. Organized by the Mumbai Citizens’ Forum, comprising various citizens’ groups, the protest saw the participation of at least 20,000 people.
Protesters voiced their concerns about Israel’s actions, condemning the loss of innocent lives. “We are here to protest against the way Israel is killing innocent people, and the way people are watching it happen without saying a word,” expressed participant Farook Mapkar. Another participant, Fahad Ahmed of the Samajwadi Party, emphasized the need for the country to stand against oppression and speak out against atrocities. This gathering at Agripada is the latest in a series of pro-Palestine protests held in Mumbai since the start of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Preceding this event, a protest at Azad Maidan on Friday, organized by the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), drew attention. The permissions for the protest were granted after a request from Prakash Ambedkar, the president of VBA, to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, according to organizers.Several pro-Palestine demonstrations have faced resistance, with arrests and cancellations of events.
