On Sunday morning, the Mumbai Police moved the body of slain NCP leader Baba Siddique from Lilavati Hospital to Cooper Hospital, approximately 8 kilometers away, for a post-mortem examination. Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and key figure in Ajit Pawar’s faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was shot near Nirmal Nagar in Bandra on Saturday evening. He succumbed to his injuries later that night at Lilavati Hospital.

Following his death, Lilavati Hospital became a gathering point for numerous politicians, celebrities, and well-wishers who came to pay their respects to the three-time MLA from Bandra West. Siddique had joined Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction earlier this year after resigning from the Congress.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it “extremely unfortunate.” Speaking to reporters, Shinde confirmed that two suspects had been arrested—one from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Haryana—while a third remains at large. He emphasized that the Mumbai Police have been instructed to take strong action against the perpetrators.

According to medical officials, Siddique sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest before being brought to Lilavati Hospital for emergency care at around 9:30 pm on Saturday. Despite extensive medical efforts, he tragically passed away shortly after arrival.

Mumbai Additional CP Paramjit Singh Dahiya confirmed that the police had apprehended two suspects and were actively investigating the case. A 9.9mm pistol, believed to have been used in the shooting, was recovered from the crime scene.
