On Tuesday morning, Mumbai witnessed its coolest day this winter, with the temperature dropping to a record-breaking low of 14.8 degrees Celsius, marking the first time it has fallen below the 15-degree Celsius mark. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature reached 30 degrees Celsius.
In Colaba, the minimum temperature was recorded at 19.6 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a maximum temperature of 28.5 degrees Celsius.
According to Sushma Nair, a scientist at IMD Mumbai, this chilly spell, characterized by minimum temperatures ranging from 15 to 18 degrees Celsius, is expected to persist until January 25. The prevailing northerly winds are contributing to the cold weather, and a shift to south easterly winds is anticipated after January 25, which may lead to a gradual increase in temperatures. However, Nair warns that the coming weekend may not offer much relief from the chilly conditions.
Despite the cold temperatures, the overall 24-hour Air Quality Index (AQI) for Mumbai remains in the moderate category. As residents continue to experience the winter chill, meteorological updates and air quality assessments will play a crucial role in planning and adapting to the prevailing weather conditions.
