In a disturbing incident in Dahisar, Mumbai, the chairperson of a residential society has been accused of biting off a flat owner’s thumb during a heated altercation. The 67-year-old chairperson, Nityanand Padiyal, has been detained by the police, who are currently investigating the incident.
The altercation occurred on August 4 at the Amarnath Apartment in Mhatre Wadi, Dahisar West. According to police reports, a meeting was held that morning which escalated into a confrontation between Padiyal and 47-year-old resident Aditya Desai. During the dispute, Desai reportedly had his thumb bitten off by Padiyal.
Desai was promptly taken to DR Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital for treatment of his severe injury. After receiving medical attention, he filed a complaint at the MHB police station, leading to the registration of an FIR against Padiyal. Desai described the sequence of events, stating that the argument intensified when Padiyal became physically aggressive. In the struggle, Desai’s thumb ended up in Padiyal’s mouth, resulting in the severe injury.
Desai has been renting out his flat, and according to him, Padiyal had previously caused issues for his tenant by instructing security guards to lock the gates at night. Desai had raised these concerns with Padiyal before, but the situation escalated when he visited the society to address the issue directly.
Deputy Police Commissioner Anand Bhoite confirmed that a case has been registered against Padiyal under Section 117 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with voluntarily causing grievous hurt. The police are continuing their investigation and gathering statements from other members of the society to fully understand the incident.
