Former Indian cricket captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has been appointed as the brand ambassador for Jharkhand in the upcoming state elections. The Election Commission received Dhoni’s consent to use his image in campaigns aimed at encouraging voter participation, according to Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar.

In a press briefing held in Ranchi, Kumar confirmed Dhoni’s involvement, stating, “Mahendra Singh Dhoni has given his consent to the Election Commission to use his photo. We are in touch with him for other details.” Dhoni will focus on voter engagement under the SWEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) program, leveraging his popularity to inspire higher turnout among voters.
Election Preparations in Full Swing
Jharkhand’s election process is underway, with the first phase covering 43 constituencies scheduled for November 13. Notable candidates who filed nominations include former Chief Minister Champai Soren, who is running as the BJP candidate from Saraikela, and Sudesh Mahto, AJSU party president and former deputy Chief Minister, filing from the Silli constituency.
Party Alliances and Candidate Announcements
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) recently released its initial list of 35 candidates on October 23, while the BJP announced 66 candidates on October 19. The BJP has formed an alliance with All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (United), and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), with the BJP set to contest 68 seats, AJSU 10, JD-U two, and LJP one.
Election Timeline and Results
The elections for Jharkhand’s 81 assembly seats will occur in two phases on November 13 and November 20. The results are expected to be declared on November 23, marking the conclusion of this crucial election cycle.
