Under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), strengthening of the National Centre for Disease Control for surveillance of infectious diseases and outbreak response is being carried out by setting 30 NCDC State Branches, strengthening of 5 Regional Centres and establishing 20 Metropolitan Public Health Surveillance units at selected metropolitan cities.
Further strengthening of the Laboratory network under NCDC is being done by establishing 10 BSL-3 and 1 BSL-4 laboratories and upgradation of Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP).
As a part of the same, Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of NDPC-Haryana branch is proposed on January 2 through virtual event hosted by NDPC and MP Kartikeya Sharma will remain present on this occasion as he is invited by the Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers.
Notably, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is the nodal agency for Public Health Surveillance and Response, epidemiological support including outbreak investigations in addition to diagnostic capacities for bacterial, viral, zoonotic infections and parasitic diseases. This is also a nodal Centre for various National Health Programs like AMR Containment Program, Viral Hepatitis, Polio, Climate Change, Inter-Sectoral Coordination and One Health.
Besides, as many as 10 sites have been shortlisted for Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony/Inauguration i.e. foundation laying of 1 NCDC Regional branch at Guwahati, 6 State branches, 2 BSL3 labs and Inauguration of 1 Temporary Regional branch at Bhopal. This will decentralize the activities of NCDC and will build capacity of the States for Disease Surveillance, Outbreak Investigation and Rapid Response to contain and combat outbreaks and also manage any public health event.
