UAE Plane Mishap: Indian-Origin Doctor Sulaymaan Al Majid Among Other Fatalities

An Indian-origin doctor, Sulaymaan Al Majid, was among the two people killed in a light aircraft crash off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah on December 26. The 26-year-old, who is an UAE bred national, was flying with his family when the tragic accident happened just moments after take-off, near the Cove Rotana Hotel at about 2 pm.

It took the life of the 26-year-old Pakistani female pilot. The GCAA has announced that the accident has been confirmed, and its investigation is still on to determine what led to the incident. The aircraft was registered with Jazirah Aviation Club.

Sulaymaan had hired the light aircraft for a sightseeing tour with his family present at the aviation club. His younger brother was to board the next flight. Initially, family members were informed that the glider had lost radio contact. Later, they were informed that the aircraft had made an emergency landing, and the occupants were taken to the hospital. Tragically, Sulaymaan died before his family could reach him, and his time of death was after 4:30 pm.

Majid Mukarram, the father of Sulaymaan, shared that the family felt devastated at having lost a cherished member of their family when they were all ready to celebrate New Year together. “Sulaymaan was the light of our lives,” Majid said, with the deep sadness they are now trying to accept.

He was at the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom, but he was in clinical fellowship. Indeed, Sulaymaan held a deep-seated engagement with British Medical Association honorary secretary and co-chair at Northern Resident Doctors Committee whereby he would pursue pay restoration issues and advocate that “junior doctors” ought to be dubbed “resident doctors”.
