Trump Campaign Alleges Iranian Hack: FBI Launches Investigation

The FBI has launched an investigation following claims from Donald Trump’s presidential campaign that its internal communications were hacked, with the campaign attributing the breach to the Iranian government. On Saturday, Trump revealed that Microsoft had notified his campaign about the breach, stating that Iran had accessed a website but only obtained publicly available information.

The Iranian government has denied involvement in the hacking incident. Trump’s campaign referred to a Microsoft report from Friday, which detailed an attempted breach by Iranian government-linked hackers targeting a high-ranking official from a U.S. presidential campaign in June. The report indicated that hackers had taken control of an account belonging to a former political adviser and used it to attempt to access the official’s account. However, the report did not disclose further details about the individuals targeted.
