Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani arrived in Doha on Sunday to meet with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The visit, which also includes Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra and intelligence chief Anas Khattab, marks the second foreign trip of al-Shibani since the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad by rebels on December 8.
The Syrian delegation is to meet several of Qatar’s senior-most officials, most notably, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Al-Khulaifi. It is part of a broader package of diplomacy aimed at stabilizing Syria after Assad left and building partnerships globally.
After Qatar, al-Shibani will visit the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. He started off his diplomatic tour in Saudi Arabia with discussions over the support of political transition in Syria. His X account reports that the Syrian delegation is interested in stability, security, economic recovery, and distinguished partnership with regional powers.
